FAQs

General information to guide you through my services and understanding conditions further

  • What is a Sports and Exercise Medicine doctor?

Sport and Exercise Medicine (SEM) doctors focus on the prevention, detection, and treatment of injuries and illnesses related to being physically active. They have undergone extensive training in musculoskeletal (MSK) medicine to treat conditions involving muscles, ligaments, tendons and joints that can affect physical performance or your general quality of life.

They can also prescribe exercise to treat chronic illnesses such as diabetes and asthma and advise on how best to approach exercise if you have a medical condition and are concerned about what you can and cannot do.

  • Do you only treat sports injuries?

You don't have to be an athlete in order to see a Sports and Exercise Medicine physician. Problems with muscles, bones and joints - known as musculoskeletal injuries - affect us all. It just so happens that they occur more often in people who are physically active.

The difference between a sport and a non-sports injury is simply the mechanism of the injury e.g. developing tennis elbow commonly has nothing to with playing tennis.

Besides caring for athletes a large part of Dr Ade's practice involves the non-operative management of degenerative joint disease in the community.

  • What is the difference between a musculoskeletal/SEM physician and an orthopaedic surgeon?

Over 80% of musculoskeletal conditions do not require surgery.

A sports medicine doctor manages musculoskeletal conditions in a non-surgical manner. He/She utilises a number of resources that may include medication, injections and engaging allied health professionals such as physiotherapists and podiatrists, to provide a uniquely holistic approach to your problem.

If after your diagnosis or a course of treatment it is found that surgery is indicated the musculoskeletal physician can utilise his network to refer you to the appropriate specialist best suited to your condition.

  • Are you "fee assured" for private medical insurance?

I am fee assured with several UK Private Medical Insurance providers but always check your policy with your provider to confirm the level of your cover.

  • How much do treatments cost?

The cost of diagnostic and treatment procedures are dictated by the facility and this will vary according to location.

    For more details contact admin@DrAde.co.uk.

  • Do you work on weekends?

I do not routinely do clinics on weekends but on rare occasions will do an ad-hoc clinic on a Saturday.

If you wish to make an appointment contact my team at admin@DrAde.co.uk and someone will get back to you within 24 hours or the next working day.

  • What to know before getting a cortisone injection.

If you have been recommended a therapeutic steroid injection and want to find out more beforehand click here for more information.

  • Can I drive after my procedure?

It is generally advised that you attend your procedure with a designated driver. Although all my procedures are minor and take place in an outpatient setting you don't know how you will respond.

If you choose to drive after the procedure and are unfortunate to be in an accident you may not be covered by your vehicle insurance provider.

  • Is there parking available at your clinics?

The following is for guidance and subject to change by local authorities. Check local restrictions before parking your vehicle.

    • ISEH - There is limited street parking near the clinic but the area is well serviced by public transport links.
    • King Edward VII - There are several metered street-parking opportunities in the Marylebone area. There are also a number of car parks within walking distance.
    • Golders Green Outpatient and Diagnostic centre - There is street parking in nearby residential roads with displayed restricted hours.
    • Wellington Hospital Outpatient Centre, Elstree - There is free parking on site.

I can meet you in Central London or Hertfordshire or via a Zoom video consultation
